... and for those who hate packing to the roof may use a cargo tray you can put into the tow hitch.

What do you mean, it's rock solid !
Seriously, for this trip we had 4 of those boxes plus the sleds on it, 1600 miles and no issues. I used to pack the kids' stroller and little red wagon on the roof and got tired of carrying a step ladder with us .
Fortunately the GX's tail lights are positioned high enough that there's no visibility issues.

hey fancy,
love your set up! i have a couple questions:
1. are you using Lexus OEM crossbars and was the set up easy with the yakima skybox?
2. what size are your tires and what brand are the rims?
thanks

Just looking at the picture - it looks like the lexus crossbars which hold up to 250lbs (or something like that) and the rims are the Lexus F-Sport 18 rims.

I have an 2011Skybox Pro 12 and Lexus cross bars. I had to put towels down when getting the lower clamps under the bars (slide them on the roof). Then with any weight added, the clamps touch the roof. There is almost no clearance between the roof and clamps.

that is what i was worried about with the Lexus OEM cross bars. I have the flush rails and it has been such a pain trying to find aftermarket tower and cross bar set up. the only thing i have found is a yakima set up but its a round bar and is ugly.
was wanting to get the OEM bars but they are listed at only 176lbs. with the skybox weighing in the 50-60lbs rang, that's not much carrying i can do. after seeing that your clamps almost touches the roof scares me even more!
any suggestions from anyone???

I didn't want more mileage loss....
So I went with this instead of the roof design.

The Prado 120 rail conversion is nice.
