Distance to empty/reserve fuel?
I've only filled up the GX twice since I've bought it, today on the way to work the gas light came on. Trip computer shows "cruising range" of 6 miles.
I know it's not the greatest idea to cut it this close, but to those of you who have owned a GX longer, about how much gas is left in the tank once the fuel light comes on?
How far past "0" have you pushed it? (no pun intended)

In the summer, we live about four miles from one gas station and about nine from our preferred place. We have never run it below 10 miles to empty, but have stopped at the closer one to add several gallons. It doesn't seem to completely register this, and will continue to display lower and lower miles to empty (even to zero) even though the gas gauge shows 1/8 tank or so and fuel light is off. From this we have concluded we don't really trust the miles to empty display.

I stopped to fill up my tank the other day and my cruising range said 18 miles so I assumed my tank was pretty close to empty. When the pump stopped, I had only added 18.8 gallons. Something doesn't seem to be right here as I believe the tank is around 23 gallons. I have a new to me 2011 460, BTW. What's the deal? Any input appreciated!

Never run low if at all possible

If you have a good fuel filer you shouldn't have to worry about running low. Crap is gonna flow anyway. However I always tell myself to not do that for that reason, but I always end up running to zero. I've pushed it about 7 miles past 0 city driving. Scary. When it's that dry I've pumped in 23.7 gal in a few times, to the brim. It'll auto cutoff around 20-21. HAve to slow fill the last 2-3 gallons.

Maybe I am simply ignorant, but why would it auto cutoff around 20 gallons when the tank is 23 gallons? I don't ever recall having this "issue" with any of the other dozen or more cars I have owned in my life. Something just isn't connecting here for me, especially given the fact that mine stopped autofilling at 18.8 gallons. Therefore, when my tank says I have zero miles of range, I really have around 4 gallons and 60+ miles until I am really empty.
I certainly recognize the risk of running the truck when the tank is really low but to me 4 gallons of fuel isn't really that low. If I'm wrong and it is normal for a GX460 to stop filling around 19-20 gallons and Lexus builds in that much conservatism in the cruising range, someone let me know so I'll shutup and be on my merry way
