Default Interior roominess of GX versus an LS

GX 460 owners,

How roomy is your SUV? I need a roadtrip vehicle and its down to a GX vs a LS. Not sure which is roomier. I've rented an LS before and its wonderfully roomy for 2 people. But this time have 4 people plus a baby, average amount of luggage, a baby scroller, and of course baby seat. so please advise and let me know if a GX will accommodate us...

thanks!

If you open the 3rd row then there is no space what so ever.

The trunk on the LS 460 is really small, so check both of them out at your Lexus dealer. I own both vehicles...

Neither of the above, I'm sorry to say!

No vehicle can comfortably accommodate two adults AND a baby seat in a single row. So, either the baby seat or an adult has to move to the third row. An adult can ride in the GX 460 third row, but for how long and how comfortably? The baby will be fine in the third row, but how to reach the baby when it needs 'maintenance'? There is no way to get to the third row once the second row is full. Well, someone could unbuckle, kneel on the seat and reach over the seat back while their posterior fills the rear-view mirror ... not to mention blocking the driver's view ... who gets that job?

If you use the third row seats in the GX 460 you've lost your luggage space ... it really is one or the other, but not both. As you are considering only Lexus vehicles you can see for yourself at the dealership. The GX 460 is great for four adults and plenty of luggage with the third row seats stowed. Bringing the baby (and the baby's gear) is a deal breaker and you may have to consider ... gasp ... a minivan, sorry!
Regards,

SaniDel

P.S. You can use just one third row seat and "split the difference" but half the width of the luggage space may not be half as useful. A lot depends on the size of your luggage and your packing ingenuity. Bring your luggage and the stroller with you when you visit the dealership.

thanks for the info all.

might go with the GX. Our roadtrip is actually from OC to Vegas so it isnt too far. We'll probably stop 1-2 times so perhaps baby can go in third row. or maybe one of the parents. thankfully I nor my gf are parents yet

Get a LX470 or LX570. There would be plenty of room for both occupants and cargo. The GX runs out of room when there is a baby stroller in the mix, ask me how I know. I bought a cargo box for the top when traveling with 3 adults and a small child.

I don't see why the car seat can not be mounted in the middle of the back seat and have the third row folded for cargo and still have a comfortable ride!

Car seats generally take up more space than a full size occupant. If you were to mount it in the middle of the 2nd row, the passengers on either side will be uncomfortable for the duration of the trip.

This is only half truth. If you are BIG then it will be uncomfortable but we are fine with it in our 3RX (I'm 5'8" and 160 lbs and my spouse and kids are smaller).

Did you read the original post? There are 4 adults and one baby seat not 2 adults, 2 kids and a baby seat. I would never ask a friend to ride an extended amount of time (3-4 hrs to Vegas) while sitting next to a baby seat, no matter how big or small they are. But to each their own...
