Default How To Read the GX 460 VIN?

Page 751 from the Owners Manual describes and locates the Vehicle Identification Number, but offers no advice on how to read it. If it is like other vehicle VINs, the rightmost digits are a serial number, which may be in order of build sequence. The last last six digits of my VIN are 000518. Does that mean I bought the 518th GX 460 that Toyota built?

A VIN Decoder ... Thanks!

So, if the last digits are the "sequence of the vehicle for production as it rolled off the manufacturer's assembly line" then our GX is the 518th produced. That sounds like a low number, especially as the recall last winter involved tens of thousands worldwide although some of them may have been Land Cruiser Prado or other 'cousins' of the GX 460. On the other hand, knowing Toyota the first unit they produced was as good as the last ... perfect!

Yes, that number is very low.

What month was your car built in?

The VIN number sequence does not include the Prado.

The Certification Label on the left hand side center pillar has '11/09' in the upper right corner so I presume that means November.

Yes, November 09 was the start of production for the GX 460.

My guess is he's referring to the fact that his VIN was not involved in the recall.

It was a 15 minute software update, no big deal...
I would also like the brake over ride installed if possible. I will have to wait until the 2011 model is out to find out if Lexus can add that feature to my vehicle...
