Thanks for this--

I'm surprised the thing didn't roll and even more surprised that you can drift an AWD vehicle . . . and I guess shocked that it has enough ponies to send the back end out-- KH

The GX 460 has more than enough power to drift ... too much as it turns out! As Consumer Reports demonstrated, the back end would slide out excessively and they 'forced' Lexus to halt sales and reprogram the vehicle stability controls. This forum was a "hot spot" for discussing that, starting in April 2010:

Although we never experienced the problem, our dealer arranged to reprogram our vehicle stability control system, plus they filled the tank, washed the car ... and tossed in a new set of floor mats for goodwill!

Was just reading about that, interesting . . . I still think it's hilarious to see an SUV of this size drifting . . . The likelihood of me getting into that kind of situation is pretty darn slim, for sure-- KH

There was no drifting in this video or in the CR test. What you see is the vehicle sliding into a turn because of the speed at entry. Drifting is using engine power to break traction on the rear tires to allow the rear to come around. Any vehicle can slide if you enter a turn too fast. Also no nanny is going to keep a vehicle from sliding if you enter a turn too hot. What was amazing was the vehicle being able to get through those turns without losing control. A good driver can push a vehicle to the edge without losing control. I wouldn't be surprised if the GX had its nannies turn off for this video.

Thanks-- Yep, I'm familiar with drifting, I'm giving up a 470hp rear wheel drive car for the GX . . . At
0:13, this has the setup of a drift, but you are probably right that he is probably just sliding . . . KH
