Might sell the GX :/
Hi everyone, I have been seriously considering selling the GX and going with a 4Runner for a vareity of reasons. My main question is what everyone thinks the GX is worth with a private sale. It's a 2004 with KDSS and 95,000 miles. It is in very good condition with no body damage and a couple of minor scratches here and there. The tires have about 2/3rd of there life left... Michelins. All fluids have been changed: rear / front diff, transfer case, transmission, brake, and coolant. Timing belt job was done I think about 70k roughly 2 years ago with the water pump and upper / lower radiator hose as well as thermostat. Front and rear brakes have been done. It has nav and rear entertainment center as well as no cracks in the dash. It's been in Arizona it's whole life and obviously no rust anywhere. I am the second owner and have had it for 4 years and previous owner had it serviced at Lexus for all scheduled maintenance. What does everyone think it's worth or atleast a good asking price? Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, why are you going T4R from the GX? I only ask because I went the other way. I went that direction for additional space, because I hated the Sequoia's looks and residual values (they were spendy), and LCs were stupid expensive (more than LXs even). The GX had a lot of the goodness but with a smaller price tag. In fact, the GX was cheaper than most T4rs and was MUCH easier to source since they're everywhere.
That said, I do miss the ease of alteration from the T4R. The stereo specifically drives me nuts in the GX, having the nav and ML system.
Oh and if I had to guess on value, I would say $12Kish given it has KDSS (assuming it's not leaking). Too bad it's not nav-free or I might consider a flight and a drive Oh, and because my wife would kill me.

Probably around $12k-ish.
It is funny that the GX is starting to look like a real bargain with how much SUVs have climbed in price. A new "Limited" 4Runner is probably high $40k's out the door. A new GX isn't that much more and is far more upscale.
I myself was looking at a 4Runner and couldn't believe the price. The interior is a bit junky for how much they go for, Toyota needs to do something about their interiors across their line up, it looks chintzy. Same with the Sequoia.

When I was looking for a SUV for the family as a 3rd car I started looking at older 4runners and sequoias but wife threw a monkey wrench in the equation with make sure it has either the Rear Seat Entertainment System (RSES) or DVD headrests. I knew 4runners were out of the question then and only some of the limited sequoias had them plus they were all still pretty expensive and as much as I love Lexus, I'm not a huge fan of the look (inside and out) along with the features of the older toyota's. I did not look at the older LC's cause they were so hard to find. So when I looked at the first generation GX's I was hooked. It looked like a luxury 4runner with all the bells and whistles and the 4.7L power plant under the hood. Mine has 180k miles on it and the thing is a beast. We just took it to the mountains to go skiing and usually in the past I take my GS300 AWD and I have to say the GX was a smooth ride, I felt refreshed driving there and back. I would not trade it for anything less than a newer GX but I'm not about to shell that type of coin. My buddy bought a 2015 GX460 and for what he paid for his, I'll easily take mine and the $40k in the bank!

Barnesie - depending on color of your GX470 and with a good detail job, I'm thinking you can easily get in the $12-13K range, maybe more. These SUV's are tanks and can easily go 300k miles if take care of. When I was looking 2003-2005 SUV's with 200K were still $8k+.

Most people don't have experience with truly rust-free vehicles. Because it's an Arizona rust-free vehicle, and based on the description you have given, I would place the value at $14k. You have low mileage for a 2004 which helps the value as well.
That being said, I can't imagine why you would trade a GX for a T4R. I researched and test drove both extensively before making my decision to get a GX. I suggest you do the same with the T4R before putting the GX up for sale.

After the build date Dec 2003, the 2004 gx470 with Nav had the TPS and rear camera options. If that is on yours, take that into consideration in your sale and up the price a bit.

I think you can still get 14-15k. Look around at 2004-2006 GX470 and you will see almost all of them have a ton more miles and they still get 12-13k. I have a 2005 with 98k miles, NAv etc. and after looking around and talking to some friends in car sales, I came to the conclusion its not worth selling. The GX is better than most cars you will get into and you will end up losing money.

Agreed. I just helped a family member sell a T4R and after being in it, I would take the GX over it anyday. The only cool feature on his T4R was the ability to put down the window on the tailgate just like any other window. That was pretty slick.
