Default inside rear door release

I used my daily driver GX470 for going camping and off road trips. Already there has come a time when it would of been nice to crawl in the back for some sleep. I have a platform back there for the dog and she loves it, but with the seat folded over, it would make a bed for me. Getting out of the GX would be a pain, so I thought it would be nice to have a way to open the rear door from the inside.
Plate that is attached to the lock, drilled a hole here to mount the cable

cable lock, did this type encase it ever needs to come out

Tape everything with a rubber tape and this also made it very stiff

Holes drilled through door, there is a double panel here

Who makes the rubber tape? Where do you get it?

In the Air Force, we called it F4 tape, I guess they still do. It's some great stuff, sticks to its self.

Are you a fellow AF maintainer? The first time I saw F4 tape, I was amazed. So simple but worked so well for all types of work. I even used it as a bandage a few times.

How tall are you?!?

The first thing I did after I bought mine two days ago was to lay down in the back and see if sleeping back there were feasible.

But I wasn't be able to lay fully without bending my legs and I'm only 5'10".

Cool mod though!

I am 6'1". This is not for sleeping there all the time, it's just for when I don't want to set up the tent, like it's pouring rain or just catch a few hours. I found that if I put my head over the rear seat head rest, then it's not too bad. I have a box on that side that sits even with the seat folded

I'm really surprised the GX didn't come with a latch back there, especially with the way the 3rd row seats work. For instance if you only have 1 of the 3rd row seats down, it's easier to get out from back there. This is a great mod, and one I'll probably do in the future. My wife has already gotten herself stuck back there when the wind blew the door closed.

Post a pic of the set up for your dog? I'm interested to see what you've done

I build a box for storage and made it same hight as the seat folded over. The box is used for tools, paper towels, and other stuff. I picked up a dog bed from Petco. I will get some better pictures if you want?

Thanks!
You'll have better luck posting in the 460 section.
