Anyone experience a clicking noise when turning the steering wheel slightlly or right (while driving)?

This is not the cv axles (replaced recently) but rather a clicking almost electronic relay type sound. I know there are threads related to a component of the ventilation system that slowly fails over time that sounds similar but not related to the steering wheel. Sound sounds like it is coming from under the dash or inside the steering wheel. Could it be the clockspring?

You mention the HVAC system but then say only while turning the wheel? The click from the vent might be a servo motor that closes dampers for air flow direction failing to shut off. A click while turning the wheel??? The only interior sound I hear while turning the wheel might be the turn signal lever?

On other vehicles I have had I can hear a whining sound when turning the wheel when the power steering system is going out. On the GX I have no experience with what the power steering system would sound like if it was going bad. This whining sound I have experienced is very noticeable in the cabin of the car and only happens when you turn the wheel. Maybe check your power steering system for leaks and look at the reservoir to see if it's full and the fluid looks good.

Do you get the noise when turning the wheel? Or when turning & holding the turn?

Just when turning and only a few degrees each way. Almost like something is rubbing but sounds like a fast electronic clicking of some sort.

My guess would be the clockspring is out of position. It's what transfers electrical contacts from the rest of the car to the steering wheel, so the horn button, radio controls, and airbag work.

Fix would be to remove the steering wheel and take a look.

Thanks...any tips on how to remove the wheel without the airbag blowing up in my face?

I've never removed the steering wheel on the GX. But generally...

1. Lower and extend the steering wheel so there's room to work behind it
2. Disconnect the battery and WAIT 30 MINUTES (important!)
3. Look on the back of the steering and remove the screws holding the airbag on. These may be Torx or other unusual fasteners.
4. Disconnect the airbag and set the airbag in an open area FACE UP (important!) in case it detonates.
5. Use a narrow piece of blue painters tape and mark the relationship of the steering wheel to the shaft, so that you'll get it back on correctly later, and not 10 degrees out of level.
6. Unbolt the steering wheel and carefully remove it. You'll have to remove the clockspring wiring connector.
7. Assembly is the reverse.

Working on this truck is generally pretty easy unless you are working on anything under the vehicle which is usually seized from all of the road salt. I've found the interior trim stuff to be well thought out from a dissesmbly perspective and will expect this to be no different. Really appreciate the advice and wil let you known what I find.
