what would cause the passenger side airbag light to say "airbag off" when someone is sitting in the seat and the seat belt is clipped?

Weight sensor in the seat isn't working or is disconnected.

Thank you, it must be plugged in because it will sense enough to show the seatbelt light when someone sits, and then it will illuminate the airbag off. But then it also worked when I sat in it later in the day. Could my 85lb daughter be right on the edge of it working?

Yes that would be my guess. That's kind of annoying, as I imagine my daughter will one day be ready to move to the front, and apparently she won't be heavy enough to have an airbag.
