06 Gx timing belt
Hello everyone. I just bought a cherry 06 gx470. The only flaw I can find is that the 90k service for timing belt and water pump has not been done. The Gx has 137.000 miles on it and I will not be able to do the service for another 90 days or 5,000 more miles. How concerned should I be about killing my 4.7 litre motor from timing belt failure.

Very Polarizing question there.... Some people swear by the 90K interval others say its fine to let it go past 150... I would do this first. Do a visual inspection. Take a look at the belt. if you can still see numbers and/or there is no obvious signs of stress or damage ie.fraying anywhere. I would say you will be OK. If you do see any of that... I'd get it in ASAP.

Its not the belt, the belt can last 200k easy. the problem is the waterpump they tend to go between the 150-200 mark which is why you always replace the pump with the belt.
alot of people do 120k change intervals on these cars instead of the recommended 90k. the 90k is really conservative if you do the change yourself you will see the belt is generally in really good shape when you take it off.... but that waterpump is the real random monkey wrench, some will last 200+k, some will fail alot earlier. if it siezes then it can cause other bad things to happen, but alot of them just start to leak out the seep hole. if you dont see any leaking or whatnot I would assume you would be more than fine. you can pull the cover off and look at the belt but it will look fine at that mileage most likely. it is an interference engine so don't let it go too long, but you are around the right interval for doing it nothing to worry that much about.
