cooling system refresh
Hello all,
I have an 06 gx470 with 160k miles. i have not replaced anything related to the cooling system since i purchased the car in Dec of 05. Are any of the cooling system parts replaced as a preventative measure at a certain age/mileage or are there signs and symptoms that show you what you need to do and when .
Cheers!

Water pump is usually done as part of the timing belt service @ 90K miles, and a coolant flush would make sense at that time as well. A fresh rad cap at that mileage probably wouldn't be a bad idea either. A visual check of the coolant in the overflow can tell you if you need a good flush, any chunks floating in there means that junk is clogging up your rad as well.

Right. The pump is normally replaced as part of the TB service. Might as well get the thermostat and radiator cap replaced at the same time.
Otherwise, routine service is to change the coolant every 3 years. Best to only use the Toyota-brand pre-mix, but there are probably after-market brands that are safe to use (silicate-free, etc).

I knew I was forgetting a serviceable component, t-stat should get done anytime you change the coolant.
