Default How many miles will GX last?

Hi. I have a 2009 GX470 and love it. Wish they still made that body style so I could trade up as my miles get higher. I'm considering buying my college aged son an older one with higher miles. I was looking at a 2008 but it has around 150k miles (so pretty high for that year); however, I know the owner and it has been pampered with every service done at the Lexus dealership. Always garage kept, etc. That said, if we take very good care of the car and continue to pamper it, approximately how many miles does it have remaining before MAJOR issues arise? I know there's no 100% guarantee and problems do come up, but I'm just trying to determine if it will last maybe 6-8 more years at 10,000 miles/year. Thanks.

There's a member here and several on mud with over 400k. They'll last forever if you take care of them.

Dude, I think you know the answer to this... It's a 4.7L Toyota engine. Fluids, brakes, timing belt, repeat... It'll last forever. There's a Tundra owner out there who had over a million miles on his T100 with the same engine. Just take care of it like the previous owners have and it'll most definitely last a LONG time. With that being said, crap breaks. You will probably have to replace small stuff, but the heart of it will endure.

Just make sure your son's not a complete bonehead and changes the oil instead of buying Keystone Light for beer pong...

Yeah the drivetrains are pretty tough on these. Toyota (sorry, Lexus) make good electronics, switches, etc., so that will likely last a good while (everything still works on my 89 Cressida). Up here in the N-E (salt, snow), the chassis will likely go or become rotten-unsafe before the drivetrain goes I would think. We have ways to keep rust at bay, but most owners seem to care very little and 10-12 year old specimens I've seen (GX's and 4Runner's) are woefully rusted underneath, and some of the body is rusting too (tailgate etc.). So up here rust will likely kill them before drivetrain woes. Down South I don't know what will kill them first, I hear the sun is hard on the body, interior, rubbers. And elsewhere around the world, who knows. All vehicles have their Achilles' Heel, and for the GX it probably depends where it lives out its life. But all comes down to good responsible maintenance, and not only when things break. I hope my 2004 lasts a while, it has 125k miles on it, and I'm trying to address whatever rust issues have started underneath. Time will tell.
My 1989 Cressida still runs strong at about 140k miles, little rust underneath, interior still good (no bloody dash cracks!). I'm probably going to give it to my daughter and she'll get a few years out of it yet.
Time will tell about the GX longevity, but so far so good.

If its a good price I would buy one that has been meticulously maintained with 150k in a heartbeat. Just keep in mind the cost to replace the timing belt is coming up.

High miles on a newer vehicle also indicates highway miles which usually means less stress. That would be a very safe/reliable vehicle for a newer driver.

Have a 07" picked up at 85k miles last year just replaced the rear shocks were leaking and changed the spark plugs as a preventive maintenance other then that it's very solid, got the dash replaced from the dealer along with the new floor mats looks very nice and solid.

Off topic, but I wouldn't be buying my college age kid something that gets 13-15mpg unless they were going to school in Alaska and 4x4 was required, lol.
