Anyone out there running with newer tires in back and older in front or vice versa?
Hi everyone, I am a new To me 2008 GX470 owner. It feels good to be back in the CL forums again after a long hiatus. My question is regarding mismatched tire sizes. The 2 tires in back are brand new, and measure 11/32 on my tire gauge. The fronts have 8/32.
My understanding on these full time 4wd vehicles is that all 4 tires need to be replaced at the same time to avoid driveline damage. I have called 2 different Lexus dealers and the service advisors all said this is ok. I asked if there was a threshold in tire depth differential where it was too far apart, and no figure was known to these advisors.
My question is for any owners out there who run or have only replaced 2 tires at a time, if everything has turned out ok?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

I had a set of same brand tires all four corners, rear ones were like new fronts were beaten up. I rotated them at the recent service appointment. Was thinking to put new in the front but couldn't find the Nittos it has.
