Hey guys

Owned my 2004 GX for about a year now. So far no problems but I think its time for new brake pads. I was curious how much did y'all pay for a brake pad replacement from a mechanic? Probably will use someone local.

It's a easy job. But be aware. Some places are going to use the cheapest pads they have a Hook Up on. I would wait till you Need them and do it right with good pads and new rotors.

Not sure where in Georgia that you're at, but ACC in the Atlanta area is a good Land Cruiser shop. And if you need OEM parts as want to do it yourself, look up beno on IH8MUD. He is a parts guru just east of Atlanta at one of the dealerships.

If you are getting it done from the dealer it will cost you around $250 to $299 each axle front or rear. Check service specials for dealers around you (Toyota and Lexus). I have had Good Luck with Nalley Lexus in Smyrna they had some good specials when i got my rear brakes replaced.

OR

If you want some body local depends on the area you live in. I also used Kaufmann Tire in Kennesaw,GA they used worked on my 4runner and would charge me $90 labor for the Brake Job and i would supply the pads.

Usually your local Napa will machine rotors for about $20/ea. I use Akebono pads which are about $50, so if you do it yourself it's less than $100.

How much are the Toyota (Lexus) rotors thru the dealer? Anyone have those p\n's handy?

About $61 from Toyota. A couple dollars more from Lexus.

Thanks, co4wheel! Much appreciated. I'm not to the point of replacing them yet - just thinking ahead. Are they pretty easy to change out? Similar to any other vehicle?

I'm not a big fan of turning them. Once you start removing material they tend to warp much easier-speaking from experience.

I have not done the Brakes on a GX yet. But I did remove the calipers and Rotors when I did the suspension swap. Frankly it was easy. I could have popped the pads out and done the job if they were not so new already. I just loosen the bleeder valve and push the pistons back at that point. Easy.


I am like you. I don't see the point of turning rotors. Rotor of decent quality are cheap and better then your turned ones on the car. New rotors are $60 a piece. Lots of good options in that range or cheaper. I prefer to order it all, have it in the garage and do it all at one time. Rather then run to the shop, get them turned. Wonder if they are too thin. Crap like that.

It's really easy to deal with. It has 2 pins up and low need to be popped out in the front calipers, the rear is the same as other car.

Because I don't want the crappiest China or Taiwan rotors on my truck, that's why.

If you're cool shelling out unneeded cash for parts, then sure, I agree. A good set of quality rotors can be machined 3 times or more usually.

I don't trust machined rotors. I prefer some good new. Removing mass to me is always a bad idea. Newer cars seem to only be good for one machining anyway. My Tundra was that way. First machining and they were close to the minimum.
