What did you pay for new brakes pads?

They're designed to be machined. I machine all the rotors on my cars until they're at or close to minimum spec. As a tech, I machine rotors almost daily and never have issues. But it's your money and I won't tell you what to do with it.

I get that they are designed to be machined. Let me explain why I don't machine rotors. Perfect example was my 2006 Tundra DBL Cab TRD. It had 16 inch wheels and as a result smaller brakes to fit the smaller wheels. The brakes where marginal at best. Lots for Forum complaints on Tundra Solutions about them. I always treated the brakes carefully. But the brakes did eventually wear out earlier then expected but also created a vibration from likely being overheated in some fashion. Perhaps the transfer layer was damaged as a result of excessive heat. I don't know. You expect brakes to wear out, but these did more then that, they got low on the pad but before wearing through got a horrible vibration. To me it's clear the small rotor is at least partly to blame. Turning a rotor is removing some the mass of that rotor. It was already marginal to begin with and you just removed more. This is not going to help. Thats it in a nutshell. I am a "keep the rotor as heavy and thick as possible" kind of guy. So it's not money wasted if in the end I have a thicker rotor for the money that is spent. Thats is money well spent in my book. You get to turn them for free. I am spending money on removing material. For you it's free, for me it cost money to make the rotor thinner. That makes zero sense in my mind.
