Default Intro\VSC

Hi, all -
New to the forum. Just bought a 2006 GX470 with 74K last month.

First issue was a suspension sensor that failed the first time I played with the height adjustment. It made it feel like there was NO suspension in the rear. Replaced the sensor and is now fine.

Second issue as of this morning was the VSC Off light and CEL came on. With just a little research I'll get the codes and see what's next. Hopefully, its something simple like the gas cap.

Before I bought it I had a Lexus dealer do an inspection. It had a cracked dash board which it seems is pretty common. They put me in the queue and just called and said the parts are in.

So, I'll be hanging around here as I'm certain with a 10yr old vehicle, there will be more opportunities

Codes are:
C1201 - this must be a generic CEL code when the ECU detects something
P0456
P0455
P0441

It seems like all of the P codes are somewhat related to the gas vapor recovery system or some part of it. So, I thought I'd go the cheap route and replace the gas cap especially since it felt like it was loose even after clicking it closed. Swung by a Toyota dealer and picked up the 77300-33070 cap that someone else had posted. No luck. Guess I'll start looking at hoses next.

Do I need to disconnect the battery, then reconnect it in order for the lights to go out? Maybe the gas cap fixed it and it just needs reset. I'll give that a go.

Yep cycling the batt cleared the lights.

Now to have the dash replaced tomorrow and figure out where the coolant leak is that showed up over the weekend. Probably need to change out the coolant anyways.

Its been about 5 days now and the lights haven't come back. So, I think the gas cap and battery disconnect\connect took care of it.

Got the car back last evening from having the dash replaced. It looks like new! They did a very nice job and so far, everything appears to still work. And, no rattles so far. They even put all of my settings back in.

Congrats on the new Dash.

Yes recycling the battery did the trick for me too after I changed my gas cap. Yesterday while filling up i noticed that replacement gas cap which i replaced in 2014 is getting loose again.

Be careful with the Battery Disconnect though... It costed me $400 to replace my aftermarket DVD player for the back. I disconnected the battery twice and that thing wouldn't turn on again so i replaced it with new.

Thanks.

Yep, some electronics manufacturers go cheap and don't put much protection on the front end of the power supply and a glitch that might occur when disconnecting and\or connecting it gets through and knocks something out. Good advice. It it happened to me I think I'd unplug the DVD before cycling power just as a habit.

Thanks for the reply!

The reason replacing the gas cap (usually) works is that the gasket fails and lets fumes out. This is a violation of EPA rules so you get the lights. If you've already replaced the cap (with OEM or aftermarket?) I would start looking for other leaks. Not with a lit match, of course!

So it might be time for a visit to your mechanic.

If the lights have not gone away after gas cap replacement, take your truck to the nearest Autozone and get those OBD codes checked out to get the correct info. Usually gas cap replacement is hit & miss. BTW i learned that when last time i had all those lights on.

Good Luck
