Smile Deciding Between 2004 and 2005 GX! HELP!

Good morning,

I am currently in the market for a used GX. I can not get enough of the SUVS. I know that between 2004 and 2005 there was an engine change and the nav system was updated. Is it really worth it to go with the 2005? Is the power that much more noticeable or is the 2004 sufficient? Also does the Nav system work and look alot better?

I know the nav system is dated and will not really be using that.

Please let me know what you think!

Thanks

Logan

I decided on the Non-Nav 2004. Less Emissions items on the engine. Non-Nav makes it easy to put a modern nav in the truck if needed. The Air Injection system is known to fail and throw a CEL. It can be disabled and you would have the stronger engine but require you to do some work and emissions may be a issue. If you look at the specs the early engine has just as much TQ (if not more). The later engine has way better HP up top. Probably not a area of the RPM band your going to use a lot. But when you need it, its nice I would assume. I had a 06 Tundra. Same engine. To me the 04 GX has a better engine. Tundra was a lot heavier I guess. I would just get whichever was cleanest and best maintained. Assuming your willing to do the minor rework IF the Air Injection becomes a issue.

There is also the issue of the cam phaser failing with the newer engine. Not sure how often that secondary air pump fails but I know it is costly.

I would buy either without hesitation. Personally I picked up an 03 because my biggest factor was reliability. I also feel I got better value for my $$$ compared to the newer ones.
