Default kdss failure

the kdss system failed yesterday... Wife was simply driving home... no off roading.
128k , 2005 gx470

only symptom - KDSS light on solid.. no flashing

took it to the dealership for repair:
codes c1777 and c1832

KDSS system accumulator solenoid malfunction
control valve assembly replaced

pricy repair... I suggest you work with your service advisor. This could be almost $4k without assistance.

I didn't notice a big difference - but I drove it straight to the dealer.

My wife reported the ride being a bit rougher than expected.

Got the same issue going on. C1832 accumulator solenoid valve downside. I've been following the troubleshooting process in the FSM and ended up finding a faulty solenoid valve. The indiividual part can be had online for about $750, or the entire assembly for about $2400 online. Labor.... I don't want to even go there yet.

Were you able to work with your dealer or area rep for a better price?

How does it drive? How different is it from normal? Only during turning or bumps?

According to the FSM, the KDSS is designed to operate in a limited mode or just shut off completely depending on the specific error code. In my case and my error code, the KDSS is supposed to turn off. This essentially makes the KDSS swaybars similar to a standard swaybar. I found no difference in the ride except maybe the cornering had just a slight touch more body roll - hard to tell because when KDSS is working there is virtually no body roll at all. Other than that I can't tell the difference except for the big orange KDSS light on the dash reminding of the expensive repair I have coming up. :-)

I guess its up to you to determine whether the few thousands of dollars is worth it. For me, I would be fine without the KDSS fully functioning on a car of that age/mileage.

Yeah, I get that. My truck is in real nice shape and everything is fully functional except the KDSS now. It's a sport model as well and a 2009, so it's worth something.... We'll see what I do.. not rushing into a repair...

Well, it's worse.

I'm trying to work with Lexus for some good faith repair assistance. Haven't heard back yet. Had the dealer diagnose, err, I mean confirm my diagnostic at a paltry $147 / hour. $147 later we have 'expert' confirmation of the faulty part. Dealer says $4082 +tax to repair (lol). I asked why not just replace the bad part and not then entire assembly on the driver's frame rail? Their response was it is a new part and you have to replace all of it. I don't necessarily buy it, but I'll play along in hopes that Lexus steps up and at least covers the parts. I can swallow paying for the labor.

Anyway...

KDSS is awesome .....

until it's not.

Hey, what ever happened to this repair?
I'm thinking about buying a used GX470 with KDSS and am kind scared that it's gonna be an expensive repair if it goes out.
Can't they just remove it entirely and use a non KDSS suspension parts?
