Default GX470 Remote Oil Filter Bypass Install

I decided to install an oil bypass system on my 2005 GX470. This is a description of the tools, process, and parts required for what I did. First the parts and tools:
AMSOIL
1. Universal Dual Remote Bypass System - BMK23
2. Spin On Adapter - BK295
3. Oil Sampling Petcock Kit - BK13 (optional)
4. Absolute Efficiency Bypass Filter - EABP100
5. Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter - EAO-26
6. Signature Series Synthetic 5W30 Oil - ASL (10 Qts) (2x1gal +2x1Qts) You will use almost all of it!
HOME DEPOT
1. Steel plate 1/4"x4"x12" - #800497
2. Stainless Steel Rivets 3/16"x1/2" Large Flange Blind - 2 bags of #835598 (4 rivets)
3. Rivet gun. I had a manual one.
HARBOR FREIGHT
1. 3/8" 90 Degree Angle Drill Attachment - #69337

TOOLS
Drill and various wrenches.

PROCESS - I waited to drain the oil until I had the system completely installed, just in case!
1. Determine where to put the remote bypass filter. I put it on the back of the front bumper, just right (passenger side)of the center.
Assemble the Bypass Filter System and Spin-on adapter w/fittings per the Amsoil directions. Wait on the hoses until you get the filter mount installed. Remove front skid plate from vehicle.
2. From under the front bumper take the Home Depot steel plate and trial fit until you are happy with the placement. I cut 1" off the length, you could take another inch to lower the mount a little more. Install the bypass filter assembly(instructions are in the Amsoil box) onto the steel plate and trial fit again. Leave the filters off.
3. Drill 2 sets of 2 holes 3/8" in the steel plate where it will be riveted to the bumper (top row about 2” from the bottom row). Use your trial fit measurements. You will see in the pictures where I had a row of holes misdrilled.
4. Trial fit the steel plate with filter bracket and filters attached. MAKE SURE IT FITS!! ( Doesn't rub on anything). Mark the bumper where you want it.
5. Remove the filters and refit the bracket where you marked the bumper. Mark the bumper through where you drilled holes in step 3. Now drill the bumper using the 90 degree attachment where one of the marks are. Just do one. Attach the plate with a rivet in that hole you just drilled. Now that will hold it while you do the next hole. I drilled each hole through the bracket into the bumper to make sure it was aligned, and then riveted it. Then I did the next one, and so on.
6. The filter assembly should be ready to accept the 2 filters and hoses. It should be very tight against the bumper!
7. From Amsoil directions, install Spin-on Adapter where the OEM oil filter is.
8. Take one end of the hose that came with the unit. Install the hose fitting onto the hose per Amsoil directions. Attach it to one of the Spin on Adapter fittings loosely. Route the hose through the frame ( there is a nice gap between the frame and skid plate on the driver side) to the filter assembly and measure. Remove and cut to length; install the other fitting. Repeat for the second hose. Follow the Amsoil instructions. Install and tighten both hoses. Double check that the hoses are installed with oil flow into and out of the filter assembly correctly. Follow diagram in directions!!
9. Take the bypass filter and fill it with oil. Let it settle for a couple of minutes, and fill again. Repeat until it takes no more oil (a little over a qt). Screw it onto the filter assembly. Repeat on the other filter.
10. Drain your engine oil and refill with new to the full line of the dip stick. Start engine and stop after a few seconds. Check for leaks. Start and run for one minute -leak check and refill to the full line. Start and let warm up. Check for leaks and fill to full. Restart and check that the filters are getting warm. Should be good to go!

Nice job! The filters are hanging down (opening at top), right? How hard was it to attach the fittings to the hoses? How much does the kit run?

Filters hang down. Attaching the hoses weren't too bad, just had to do one at a time. All of it was around 255 plus oil, shipping and tax.

Nice! I have made similar modifications on past vehicles I have owned. I will consider doing the same on my 2015 RX350. Good install.

Filtration options, convenience, oil cooling systems and accumulators. Before Baxter Performance developed a way to adapt to the Toyota cartridge filter system, there was not a way to take advantage of these options.

The Royal Purple filter is the direct replacement for the OEM filter. The size difference is crazy.
Pic of the adapter.
FIlters in place.
All finished up. If you look close at the vent on the passenger side, you can see the amzoil filter. Not sure if I like that. I might put a screen there to protect it.
