Default Is GX going to ride better then a 4Runner

Once you put on 5100's and the delete the rear airbags? I don't want to make my GX Ride like a 4Runner.

If a 4Runner had the same suspension as you're looking to use, they would ride more or less the same. As it stands, a GX470 rides the same as a 4th gen 4Runner Ltd aside from the e-adj shocks.

What is it about the way a 4Runner rides that you don't like exactly?

To me the GX rides better (smoother) then any 4Runner I have driven. Perhaps the frame is stronger and that helps the truck ride better.

I feel like the ride in my GX is better now than it was with factory shocks and airbags. I used 5100s and OME springs plus the MT conversion kit. The ride was very smooth on some of the wilderness trails in Idaho.

I still think a GX would ride better than a 4th gen 4Runner with the same suspension due to the added weight. I was worried about how mine would ride when I got rid of the bags and went with FJ springs, and it rides fantastic. Had I known how much I was going to like it, I would've deleted the bags while the compressor was still functioning.

Is the ride soft or is it firm. I really don't want firm. Smooth but controlled is my goal. Can you tell me about your setup? Is it OEM FJ springs rear. How tall now compared to before.

Thanks

OEM FJ springs will work nicely in the rear. Any lift would be minimal, probably less than an inch. Personally I am a huge fan of the OME springs vs the OEM springs. I also wanted 3" of lift, so I had no choice other than OME. As BlackCat said, the ride is much better, or imo it is. It's smooth and comfortable while still being firm when needed.

How much heavier is a GX470 compared to a 4th gen 4Runner V8 AWD Ltd? Everything mechanical is the same, it's just the body that is different. The Prado body is taller, and the Lexus trim is sure to add some bulk, but how much are we talking here? 500lbs? More?

To the OP, OEM FJ Cruiser springs will be a lower spring rate than OME offerings, if you're looking for a soft ride the FJC springs are your ticket. Myself, and many others prefer a firmer ride, more "truck-like" if you will.

It's still soft, but it firmed it up quite a bit. Feels more sporty now. The truck sits a little more than an inch higher in the back with the FJ springs.

Before- keep in mind my compressor hadn't worked for like 2 weeks so it was a bit lower than a truck with normally functioning air suspension.

Here's a better one with how it sat with functioning air suspension.

Another thing to point out is that the gx seats sit more upright like a truck, the 4Runner seats always sit low like a car. Gx doors are heavier with better sound deadening, I'm sure there's much more but yes overall I thought the gx was a much more solid ride than the t4r.

I always thought they both had the exact same seats.

To me they don't feel alike at all. Same to my fiancé. The 4Runner is not comfortable. The Lexus IS plenty comfortable. Hitting sharp impacts in avtoyota is jarring not smooth.
