Default 2004 GX470 radiator

Installed a new radiator in the GX this morning.
Was not leaking but there was a coagulated pink mass on lower right of radiator.
Ordered a KOYO A2690 radiator from Amazon, fit was perfect.
Installed new upper and lower hoses as well.
If you decide to do this yourself make sure you have a clamp tool like the OTC one.
Not sure how you could do it without it.
I would also STRONGLY advise getting a LISLE 24680 spill free funnel to fill the system.
This funnel make filling very easy and air free, system burps all the air out with this funnel.

I used a TYC radiator which was also a perfect fit.

Clamp tool is for removing clamps from all the hoses going to radiator.
Lower radiator hose is difficult to remove without this tool.
It makes removing all the hoses much easier.
I installed a KOYO radiator, no cuts, upper or lower.
Hanger hook was on upper passenger side of radiator on mine.

I didn't use one for mine either, and I took the hoses off on the radiator side.

How much do radiators go for? I know nothing about car repair and cost. How much would it cost to get a new radiator if it needs to be replaced?

Amazon or rockauto. Denso seems to be the one. some use Toyo and Spectra. They are not expensive and an independent shop should do it for a couple hiundred I would think if you furnish the radiator..

Okay. Thanks for the info. Like I said, I have no idea how anything works when it comes to this kind of stuff. I love my car, but the only thing I know how to do with it is drive it.

TYC is also a great brand for radiators, I have one in mine and it was light years ahead in quality vs the factory one I pulled out when it started leaking.

quick tip.
I just finished changing the rad on my 04 gx470 and I agree that it is important to have the hose clamp tool. One trick though is to disconnect the lower radiator hose from the engine (rather than from the radiator) which is much easier to get to than on the radiator end. The rad will still be able to be removed with the lower hose connected only to the radiator. Then when installing the new radiator install the hose to the rad first before placing the radiator into the engine area. That saves your hands from getting that clamp on with very tight tolerance down low. Not to say this makes everything perfectly easy as the lower mounting bolts are a bit tough to get to.

Also be careful as there is a rubber pack washer/bushing that can fall out of the mounting holes on the radiator that can come loose and fall out while you are pulling the radiator out of the engine area, they can be difficult to find (trust me).

All in all it took me 3 hours to change out the radiator which is start to finish with new fluids and putting all the engine covers back on.
