GX470 Transmission Replaced
I officially hate this car/lemon. I bought this car in 2007 brand new from Pohanka Lexus. The car's been plagued with problems from day one.
1. alignment was off from day 1 which they couldn't correct til this day. Can't even count how many times the car went into the dealership in the first 2 years for alignment alone.
2. Drive shaft clunk problem until it was replaced under TSB. 10,000miles
3. Replaced Rear differential due to whirling sound and vibration from rear of the car around 1500 to 1700 RPM in any gear or speed. 15,000miles.
4. O2 sensor replaced at 45,000miles in the tune of $1400 along with alternator and gas cap causing CEL.
5. Replaced frozen/seized front calipers at 46,000 miles.
6. Slipping gears and rough shifts, failed transmission at 80,000miles, replaced at Pohanka Lexus for $5600, along with another alignment.
Each incident required multiple trips because when you do take it in they can't replicate it.
and 2 weeks after new transmission and all drive-train fluids replaced...its vibrating like hell in any speed. balanced brand new Michelin tires twice but its not the tires. so the car is back in the shop today. I've lost trust with Lexus after service, and year after year butting heads with retarded service writers at the dealership wore me down. i give up...no more Toyota/Lexus in the future.

If you're looking for advice, sell it and move on.
One, it doesn't sound like it's getting any better. It appears to have a better than average chance of bankrupting you.
Two, it'll make you happier. Unreliable cars are a giant PITA, not to mention stressful.
If it were me, I'd say this one has outlived it's place in my garage.
Sorry for the rotten experience.

I'll say this, I wouldn't call my GX a "super reliable vehicle", it's definitely had far more issues than other Lexus I have owned in the past.
But I wouldn't call it a "lemon" either, it's pretty average when it comes to reliability and more what you would expect from the Big 3 like say a Ford or GM product.
To the OP, I'm thinking you had some sort of differential issue that took out the transmission with it. Also, I think you may have a less than honest dealer, some of those repairs sound fishy.

It had 9 miles on the odometer when I bought it.
Thanks, but all the major parts are practically new after the replacement and with spending $7000 on transmission and new tires I'll have to make this one last. We just had our baby this year and I'm not in a position to buy a new SUV.
My GS300AWD was reliable, but my GX470 is a lemon. Maybe I just got really unlucky with this car.

Wow, sure sounds like a lemon. I've had 125k relatively trouble free miles, well except the radiator leaking and replacing frozen front calipers, plus a host of other wear and tear items that required replacement. But generally speaking, despite being slightly more to maintain, it has been a relatively reliable vehicle. The engines and transmissions are well known to be damn near bullet proof if maintained. Sell it and move on. Good luck.
