Default Loose Part of yr 2003 GX470

I found this part under the glove compartment at the front passenger seat. The dealership just completed the recommended 90K service which include replacing cabin filter, it looks to me a part of the glove compartment hinges but I can be wrong, any body what part this is and where it is supposed to be?

Thank you much

If ey were changing cabin filter that means they took glove box out...maybe he piece that the string from the damper hooks on to the side of the glove box. It prevents the box from just dropping, the string retracts back up under the dash to the left of the box.

I think that is the clip from the end of that string.

OK, I just read the manual- section on how to replace the cabin filter, and the part is shown on the left side of the glove compartment with string connected to it. I tried to pull the end of the string but it I did not feel any resistance or sort of spring return, Is that the case?

It should have resistance...it holds the glove box back from just "dropping"

Ok, I removed the glove compartment and pulled the string, you are correct, there is a resistance and retract by itself. I positioned the loose part where it should be on the side of the compartment and it should be good to go. Now here is the issue, I pulled out the cabin filter which should be replaced under the 90k service but it looks like it was not done, it should be done per itemized receipt from the dealership, see attached picture, is this a new filter?

There are 2 kinds of cabin air filter - plain and activated-carbon that filters out odors (but costs a little more). This is the activated-carbon one.

OK, I was able to install the loose part back to its location with the string attached, I place the AC filter cabin back to its slot, whoa it cost $40.00 before tax at Lexus just the filter. Job complete

Amazon sells a 3rd party filter for a lot less (about half). I haven't tried it myself, but I added it to my wish list for next time.
