Default GX470 RES Screen Won't Fold Down

Just picked up an 07 GX470 that has the Mark Levinson sound and rear entertainment system, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the screen to fold open. I have tried pressing the round button in the middle of the control pad on the unit but nothing happens. I can turn the lights on and off and pressing the eject makes the eject noise so it is getting power.

Any tips? Thanks.

Sorry, mine is dealer-installed aftermarket in the headrests.

on both of mine it just flips down pretty easily if you press the button, maybe your lock mechanism is jammed up from dirt/grim over the years, just try having someone pushing on the button while you physically trying to open it from the sides with both hands. if you get it free then clean whatever was keeping it from opening in the first place. don't hulk it though its not that strong looking of a unit.

I tried a light pry with a screwdriver and it definitely didn't want to release.

At this point I may just go all hulk smash and see what happens as there isn't a whole lot to lose.

Can you post a picture of the mechanism so we're sure you have a factory installed unit?

Not sure if you can tell from this picture or not. After mentioned, I wouldn't be surprised if it is not OEM since it has LED lighting on the bottom.

Try inserting a thin putty knife or get a plastic trim remover set at autozone. The plastic is less likely to scratch or brake anything

I would work the putty knife around all four edges and then use the plastic trim tool to pry in the area where the button is or insert it where you think the lock is kind of like slipping a credit card
in between a door jam and the lock to defeat the lock slide . Might just work. could spray a single shot of wd 40 also to loosen anything if you can find where the release lever is

The release is actually an electronic button. Not sure why it isn't actuating.

I will try using my trim removal kit.

i'll check my truck at lunch, by my release button for the rear screen is mechanical, not electric... it's just a tab that holds the screen up and when you press the button, the tab goes in and drops the screen...
