Centric Rotor & Akebono Pad issues
Hi all, I know it's another brake thread, sorry. Anyways, this weekend I replaced my front rotors and pads as well as my rear brake pads. I have replaced brakes on many vehicles but have never run into this issue before. Here are the parts I used:
Front:
Centric 120.44127 Premium Brake Rotor with E-Coating
Akebono ACT976 ProACT Ultra-Premium Ceramic Brake Pad Set
Example picture of the rotor
Now, here is my issue. In the picture above you will see the silver flat part of the rotor where the pads make contact as well as an inner black portion of the rotor. When I installed the brake pads, the inner most part of the pad sits slightly on that black portion of the rotor. This causes the pads to sit uneven against the silver part of the rotor. You can see the pressure points on the outermost portion of the rotor as well as that small black inner portion.
Has anyone else had this issue? Not sure if I need to order different pads or let it be and let the inner pad wear down enough for the rest of the pad to make complete contact with the rotor.

Ok, you definitely don't want to let it be and drive like that. I've used Akebono pads in the past and never an issue. Try mating the old pad on the new rotor to see how it sits. If it sits correctly on the pad surface, then it's the Akebono you have to change.

This is very strange and frustrating as both parts are made for this vehicle. Will update later...

Pole Position
It's a one piece rotor with the black painted middle section. Once you drive it to paint will wear away and it will be normal. Of its truly a step then that is different. If its just a painted section don't worry about it.

Hmmm, I actually have that exact same combo and didn't have any issues with the inner portion myself. I'll take a look next time I have the wheels off though. It's been about 5k miles since I swapped everything. I am running Napa calipers.
