Like many here, I have commented on the cracks on my dashboard. They are slowly spreading and starting across the area where the passenger air bag is. I know this may be a stupid question because I know zero about air bag structure, but is there any risk of it blowing through the dash?

Has anyone followed up on this as a safety concern? My local Lexus dealer was no help. That said, I have not used them for service.

the dash cover is just a cover, it does not restrain the air bag from deploying. the cracks are purely aesthetic in nature and have no safety risk that I am aware of.

The passenger air bag is intended to blow through the dash when it deploys.

However, if the cracks are deep enough to expose the airbag itself, it could be damaged by extended exposure to sunlight. Get the dash replaced if this is so.

If you opt for a dash cover (dash-mat, etc) make sure it has a section specifically designed for the passenger airbag to deploy through.
