Not only didn't it leak....but the bearing felt fine. So did all the pulleys. The only part that showed wear....was the belt itself.

May I ask what is your philosophy of not changing the timing belt until now, obviously you won and saved a bit of money there.
When I drive mine it is under 2000 rpm on the free way and 1200 creeping around town.

I wouldn't try that mileage on a sports oriented engine with higher rpm though

This truck is driven and not babied. It receives the maintenance it requires and is well cared for. As for the belt, I knew these belts could go a long way. I simply procrastinated doing the job.

As for a "sports oriented high mileage engine", I come from a long Mitsubishi background working on the 2.0l turbo 4g63 enigine. I have gone well over 100k on belts on that interference engine which spins at 7k all day long.

I did have a belt break on a 4AGE engine in an MR2, but that's a clearance engine and there was no issue after belt replacement.

Glad to hear these GX's will run to 200K. I recently bought a 2005 with 130K on it (I got all the maint. records that the previous owner had) timing belt replaced at 92K. I was originally looking for a 4Runner but found the GX and liked all the creature features, and had always been told that if regular service was done they would go 200K - 250K. I have been surfing this site and really like all the helpful information - I'm looking forward to seeing how this thing holds up. I have a 2004 Honda Pilot with 135K trouble free miles and I've had really poor luck with domestics ( except for a 1986 Suburban Diesel that I ran to 285K). If this Lexus holds up I'm never again going to buy a domestic.

Default Valve Cover Gasket

Ok guys...next project....371k miles

I had a small weep from the passenger valve cover gasket towards the rear.
Job took 1 hour to complete, and was painless.

Pictures reflect the condition of the cover and cams as seen upon removal of the cover.

FYI...truck is being run on Pennzoil Ultra 5-30.
