New 2005 KDSS, Common Mods?
Been posting here for a little bit, but we just got our new to us 2005 GX w/ sport package, that Blue Micah color. Second Lexus bought on the internet sight unseen from Texas, last was a 2001 LX470. At 100,000 miles, it looked almost brand new, it was a no brainer. I still say the best used cars come from Texas.
So I'd like to know what you all suggest as common modifications I can do to make this thing look and run great, and keep it running for the next 200,000 miles.
I just did the HID retrofit, and bought a grease gun for the driveshaft. It's had all the recommended maintenance done up through the 90,000 service. Also just redid all the valves and air pump in the secondary air injection system (this was why the dealer gave me a great deal, lots of lights on the dash they couldn't figure out).
I'm pretty hands on, bought the 3-pack of service manuals, but my budget isn't huge. this is my backup car.
Next thing on my list is some All-Terrain tires or a separate set of Nokian Haekkappellitta snow tires. Not sure which route I am going to go. Just moved to Pittsburgh, so I'd like to have this be my go-to snow beast when needed.
So let me know what easy retrofits you recommend, or common service that's overlooked. I think it came with every option (Sport package, DVD, etc). But since it's 10 years old, there's gotta be some things I can improve on.
Thanks!

Dash mat. (Cracks will get you sooner or later).
Full fluid changes, diffs, x-fer case, oil, etc...
Where did you get your service manuals? I need to pick up a set.
Bottom line- these are foreign service landcruisers, and are built as such. You will encounter few issues.

Got the service manuals from ebay, brand new, shrink wrapped. I can look up the seller if you want.
Yeah, I've been reading that fluids need replaced. I need to buy the wife a new car before this one goes down for my overhaul though. What about repacking the wheel hubs/bearings?
Cracks already started. Truck lived its whole life in Texas, then we brought it up in the coldest PA winter in years, so I think it was inevitable. But I have the dark gray dash, so it doesn't bother me much right now.
I bought it because of the build quality, really miss my LX470, that thing was indestructible. Looking forward to this one.
Big thing now is tires. Can't wait to ditch the Bridgestones. Really like the Good Year DuraTracs and Silent Armors, but am tempted to get the Nokian Hakkapaelittas to make it a snow beast. If I go with the all terrain tires, they have to be comfortable on the highway as well as stellar snow/ice performers.
Thanks!
