Default 06' GX470 rear a/c not working in "auto"

Is there a common problem I should be after? I can get the fan to work in lo-med-hi if I set the rear-cool fan selector to those positions, however, selecting auto results in the fan turning off completely.

Ideas?

Do I have to have the front in "auto" for the rear "auto" function to work?

Manual states

" auto mode The fan speed is automatically adjusted ONLY when the air flow setting of the FRONT air conditioner is in the PANEL mode

When you turn the rear cooler on with the front air conditioning off the cooling device is not operated

This should clear up the confusion Your system is working fine.

Panel mode is the symbol of air directed to front top vents only It is the first symbol on the climate control. The arrow in the symbol points to the head only air flows mainly from the instrument PANEL vents ]

This is true. It makes sense now that I think about it. I had hot feet the other day and my mother in law was in the back seat. After setting the ducting to cool through the panel vents and foot vents, she started complaining about the rear air not working.

Good to know. Now I can cut the AC back there and claim ignorance.
