If you have the nav display, you can't change it out without also losing the controls for the heating + air-conditioning.

I'd love to one day sniff the connections on the CAN-BUS and write up a custom app to replicate the factory a/c controls on a CarPC. The problem I have is almost no time since I got married and had children. Maybe I'll take a week of vacation sometime and work on this if there was enough interest.

Has anyone succesfully removed a factory nav setup and replaced with a non-nav center stack (HVAC controls, aftermarket head unit, etc)? I wonder if the wiring harness in the dash is the same?

If you have factory nav, the stereo/HVAC/nav is all integrated, you can't change just the stereo.

I can't link it from work, but do a search on YouTube for the Vaistech install that AutoToys did. They show removing the screen & cassette unit, so you can see what its like behind there.

I suspect there isn't the depth needed behind the screen area to mount a double-din unit.

This is exactly why I spent months searching for a non-Nav GX. I was willing to wait until I found one that met my criteria (config, condition, miles, etc). In the end I spent more than "originally" intended but happiness is worth the price
