Default have any of you noticed this?

Today I needed to add about 3 inches of coolant in the overflow tank and when I took the cap off I noticed sand on the rubber tube. I have only had the truck about 2 months so this is the first time I have looked. I have never noticed this on any car I have owned. I googled it and found it is a very common issue. Have any of you guys ever noticed this? Take a look. I plan to clean my overflow tank out tomorrow.

Sand cast block not cleaned properly is the commonreason for the sand.

When is the last time you changed the coolant? (drain + fill)

The truck only has 29k on it. I wasn't planning on doing it anytime soon until I saw that.

Not sure what the official Lexus change interval is -- I usually go with every 3 years.

I'm waiting for someone to post they checked theirs out. Someone with lower mileage that has not had it changed.

I'm on the road, driving (not in the 2009 GX 470) from Virginia to Iowa, to attend a funeral. When I return on Thursday, I will check to see if my overflow tank has any sand in it.

I flushed all mine out and removed the reservoir tank and cleaned it. Good to go now.

I'm back now. Yesterday I checked the radiator overflow tank on my 2009 GX 470 with 19K miles on it. No sand in the overflow tank. The overflow tank was also full. It needed no topping off.
