mrblister;

Did you look at your relay configuration? Do you have all 4 of the small relays that go in the 2 small relay boxes?

Yes I have all 4 relays in the two relay boxs. Its really strange that you have no harness on the dim relay. Did you check rear panel behind drivers side brake light looking for the green relay I told you about ? If you do then you may not need the dim relay.Let me know

mrblister;

I think you have me confused with one of the other posters on this topic. I just checked the DIM relay socket connector on my 2009 GX 470. The socket connector does not have any metal contacts in it. It also doesn't appear to have any harness attached to the relay box, below the DIM relay socket.

Soon I will stop at my local Lexus dealer, and see what they say I need to add to complete towing capability on my SUV. I will specifically ask about the DIM relay. I will report back what they say.

I was responding to poster that had asked me to check my relay boxes . If you do not have a provision for a relay in the dim socket and you know for sure your truck came with factory option [ trans cooler tow harness attached to rear frame with electrical towing 7 pin ] Then there may be something else you need to do to activate your electrical system There is another relay as pictured above green in color mounted in the drivers side rear behind tail light visible behind rear panel where spare tire jack is ] I am very interested to find out what lexus has to say

O.K. I'm the one that initially brought this up. I checked behind the panel by the driver's -side tail light. No green relay and no socket to install a relay. Haven't tried to use the tow package yet, so I have no idea if the lights will work. Not a problem at the moment. I get the impression from the parts diagrams that there may have been 2 tow options available. I found several references to a "tow option 1" and "tow option 2".

Please let us know what the dealer says about this!

Over the weekend, I went to the local Lexus dealer (largest Lexus dealer in the Va./DC/Md. area, by far). After describing to them what I had in my 2009 GX 470 tow package, the service rep told me that the only thing I needed to add was the tow hitch. I specifically asked about the DIM relay. He told me it was not needed for towing. I asked him what it was used for, and he did not know.

I have another issue. A couple of weeks ago I attempted to program my 2 new Lexus master keys. I had previously loaded Techstream on a Windows XP Dell M70 laptop. I had no issues with the installation. Techstream works fine on the laptop. I was able to plug in the Mini Vic cable to the GX 470, bring Techstream up. connect with my Lexus, and go through the procedure to program a key. I could not get past the step where I am supposed to push the lock and unlock keys simultaneously, then push either key within 3 seconds. I am supposed to hear 2 beeps, and I never heard 2 beeps. I tried at least 10 times. I tried both keys, at least 10 times. No go. (My Lexus only has 2 keys programmed: a master key and a valet key.)

Has anyone here successfully programmed master keys for a 2009 GX 470? What am I possibly doing wrong?

Have you tested the connector to see if you have power. Just put on flashers and then test the contacts to see if you have power if you do then your ok . Get the hitch installed

Default 2009 Experience

I'm bumping this older thread to find out how your 2009's are doing. I am considering trading my 2004 on a 2009 I have my eyes on. The miles on the 2009 I'm looking at are a little high at 64K, but it is a CPO. By 2009 I would hope they were using better dashboards! Any issues specific to the 2009 year I should look at?
