Default Today's project, OEM rear spoiler

I've been amassing parts for this for a while now, and finally pulled the trigger on the project this morning. Took me about 2 hours.

OEM spoiler from Sewell. I was torn on doing this project for years -- should I leave it alone? does it provide any functional benefit? what if I screw up the tailgate? etc... I finally realized that I just think it looks a bit better w/the spoiler. And, I'd spent enough time w/the instructions to feel comfortable.

Bought a few tools/supplies:
- rivet gun
- trim removal tool for toyota (a must for removing the OE rear 3rd tail light)
- 3m prep solution
- 3m sealer (for the holes)
- a new set of metric drill bits

Spent a bunch of time obsessing over getting the templates in the right spot before passing the point of no return and using a hole punch to mark the location of the 5 holes.

project went super smoothly. So far it hasn't fallen off in the garage

Thanks guys. it's a bit nerve racking to drill holes -- especially the big one -- in the truck, but it turned out OK. And, I can't imagine an indy or dealer being nearly as careful w/the truck in the process. Example: forgetting to seal the holes w/the 3M goop after drilling could cause rust to creep into the picture down the road. Forgetting to wrap the wire connectors in the cushy foam tape could result in new rattles, etc.

Not a bad DIY. Just one you have to be pretty patient & careful with.

Nice job!

I saw a GX in my area without a spoiler and it looks weird seeing one without a spoiler. The spoiler really makes the GX look sporty.

You've made the right decision. I always felt that the rear spoiler on the GX make it look complete, especially from the side view.

is the rear spoiler an option on all or was it only available on the sports package?

I can’t open your pictures

What are you doing with your old 3rd brake light? I’d take it off your hands. I have an ‘08 that’s being built up as an Offroad overland truck. I’m thinking of removing the spoiler because it’s a little in the way of a roof rack, rear lights, etc.

Thanks.

I just realized my gx470 didn't come with a spoiler. Was that an option from the dealership? Wonder if I can find a green one....

Are you able to repost your pictures? I can't see them in the post.

Also can't see pics. Can you add to thread? How much do you have invested in it?
