I put some LEDs that I developed for the LandCruiser crowd in my brother in law's GX470 domes and the results were pretty good. These are a lot more expensive than LEDs currently on the market but the quality is a lot better.



They have voltage regulation circuitry to protect the LEDs against voltage spikes. Some earlier generation LEDs have been running since 2006 and are still going strong.

I used high quality Cree XP-G emitters that put out over 100 lumens at a very low amp draw of around 100mA at 12V. The emitters have a high color rendering index to allow objects to look more natural in this light. The color temperature is at 4000k which is similar to natural mid-day sunlight.

Yeah the one diode basically equals the light output of the panels that people are buying. They're very strong. You basically can't look at them directly when they're on or you'll be seeing spots.

I'm waiting to get together with my brother in law again to test the fitment in the running board lights. I was going to do it last weekend but he had to have emergency surgery to remove his appendix.

I remember seeing these for sale on another forum. You're right, $45 a pop is a lot more expensive.
