I spilled 6 gallons of homemade red wine in my 2009 gx a few weeks ago. I was able to remove the rear carpet, run it through the washing machine, and replace the padding. I also removed the front carpet and replaced most of the padding. The wine managed to make it all the way to the front drivers footwell.

Anyway, I still notice a bit of a smell when I first enter the car. The smell dissipates once the air starts circulating, but I am still thinking of replacing the carpet. The problem is, all new carpet would cost about 1,400 bucks.

If anyone has any thoughts, or knows where I could get the carpet used, please let me know. Thanks!

Find a very good detailer first or a disaster recovery service. They'll have access to and can use an ozone machine to help get rid of residual odor. I'd go that cheap route before replacing the carpet.

Agree with BurgBoxstr, if you were able to get the stain out, then getting the smell out should be the easy part. Take it to the pro's, it will be much cheaper than replacing the carpet.

Thanks for the thoughts. I will give the ozone route a try before anything else.

My daughter was born in our GX. It looked like a crime scene but I was able to get everything clean. It took me a couple days but it looks and smells like new now.

If you are thorough in your cleaning you shouldn't need to replace anything.

Everything went well all things considered. This was our 3rd child and she arrived a little sooner than we were expecting. She was born in the passenger seat at the hospital parking lot. Doctors arrived very quickly to assist. My wife is a trooper though! Not too many DIY jobs scare me off but this one makes the list.

By removing the Seat and disconnecting the harness cables , you can remove the carpet, and have it Water Blow washed using a excellent stain remover and finally carpet shampooed ( I used some fragrances with the shampoo and then dried ). Yes this will need for some time off and, then you can save the $$$ bucks. I did mine You need at least 4 hours to remove the seats and carpet comes off within 20 minutes. the drying time depends on the local weather. Yes you will need some helping hand while the final straw are removed, as the cable needs to be pushed out of the slots on the pre-cut carpets. I did by taking few snaps and earmarking them as 1,2,3 so on so that life is easy when you have to refit it back. if you have patience, this can be done easily at your backyard.
