Any snowboarders? I need a good rack.
Background - I recently purchased a 2005 with 52,000 to replace a 2006 Honda Pilot that my 17 year old totaled. We used to just fold down one seat in the Pilot and throw the boards in the back but I would rather not do that with the GX. What are you folks who board doing? We sometimes will need to have four boards. TIA!
PS - love the truck.
PSS - it won't let me add a signature which I assume is due to my n00bness so I'll just type it below.
2012 Audi A6
2009 Volvo C30
2005 Audi A6
2005 GX470, black with tan interior, NAV etc. No hitch yet but planning to add.

Calcio,
First of all, welcome to ClubLexus! Second of all, Congratulations on your purchase! And lastly of all, that sucks about your Pilot.
I have a feeling most people here will be recommending Thule products, with Yakima products being a close second. I use to have a Yamika SkyBox on my other vehicle which I put in snowboards and skis in which offers better protection that just the 'normal' ski racks.
... Notice all those dings and scratches from rocks and debris at the front of the vehicle? -- Those items will hit your boards and skis too if left out on top.
Hope this helps and good luck!
Cheers,
Kermee

+1 on the Yakima (or Thule) cargo boxes. I also have a Skybox. I like the option of being able to use it in the summer for camping gear as well. It mounts directly to the factory cross-bars. I'm the only one who snowboards but there is plenty of space up there for four sets of skis and my board, which is a 161 with flow bindings.

I have a Yakima rack on my 4runner and the GX, nothing but good things to say about Yakima. When we go on a trip I put the big powerhound rack on with the Yakima rocketbox, skis stay in the box unless we need additional space and then they go on the powerhound rack. I have had the box for several years and highly recommend it.. The rack is good too and Yakima says it will hold 4 boards...seems a little tight to me.

We use massive rocketbox as well. These things are great and hold a LOT more than you think. It's funny how it is very anally organized on the way TO the mountain and then come Sunday after skiing it is a haphazard mish mosh of crap everywhere. I believe mine is called Thule Adventurer and it mounts great to factory rails.
I have Thule low profile feet and bars on our other car with a rack I pop on or off as needed. I like the box better.
Good luck, so many choices. Where are you driving to for snowsports when living in Maryland? Snowshoe? Seven Springs?

I bought Yakima Skybox 16 Pro last week from REI for $420, on sale.
We are using it for our holiday mountain trip. It's loaded with will all sorts of stuff and i love it!!!
No wind noise, easy to open, secure and looks good on the GX. Money well spent.
I've used Yakima fat cat (spell?) rack before to carry 3 snowboards. Its was good, but the wind noise was much more significant. Also...the boards were always dirty from the road.
I prefer the box.
