Default A strange happening.

I bought my GX in Feb of this year. It is a 2009. Today for the first time I noticed that a red vehicle icon with a key inside it was flashing on the dash when the key was removed from ignition. I looked it up and saw it was a security icon showing the system was in security mode. I never had this light flashing until today. Do you guys have it flashing on your vehicles?

i just hooked up tech stream to it and didn't see where anything was set differently than before. I would have noticed this light if it was on in the past. really puzzling.

Mine starts flashing shortly after the key is removed, and it has been that way since I bought the GX in 2005. It was the same on my previously owned 2006 ES, and it is the same on my 2013 ES. I'm confident that that is the way it is supposed to work, and my guess would be that you just haven't noticed it before. I do recall, with the GX and with the older ES, noticing the flashing light only after I had had the vehicles for a while.

you may be right Les. I checked my wife's GS350 and it doesn't have one on when it is off and key fob out of range.

A flashing key symbol simply means that there is enough dirt and grime on the key to trigger the dirtometer sensor.
Take that filthy key to an "Authorized Dealer" and ask them to detail the key.

That can't be. I just had my dirtometer sensor replaced by the Lexus dealer, and I still get the flashing security light. And the Lexus dealer gave me a goodwill discount and only charged me $399 to replace the dirtometer sensor.
