Awesome write up! I'm glad I found your post because I am planning on doing this exact job later this week. So it's OK to reuse the old shims? Is there any benefit to getting new ones?

Ok This didnt get answered the last time!

Is it beneficial to replace the rear rotors and pads at the same time? Does it need to be done?

Brakes get replaced when they are worn out, the rear will usually outlast the front brakes, sometimes by double the milage.

Booyah Lexus advises for skimming the Rotors twice before full replacements, provided the requirements are met for skimming. But the stealerships go in for replacement. ( Big Bucks $$$$ )

Yea but I hear not worth it with the lexus. I can get the rotors for 110.00ea and the pads for 40.00 bucks, and I will do it myself so I will be saving money lol and knowing I got all new OEM parts that should last me longer hopefully.

Great DIY job. Nice pictures. Unfortunately, I did exact the same two months ago with same parts and the famous warping is back and worst. That how fast it is.

I am thinking about replace the pads one more times with Ceramic pads.

I took a different approach and installed some HAWK pads (LTS?) on rotors that were starting to feel like they were warping (actually a deposit buildup, IMO). All shuddering/oscillating is gone, brakes are working great (other than an annoying squeal at times). The OEM pads are really prone to leaving deposits, especially after a hard stop where you stay on the brakes and transfer material. They're low dust, work well when cold, and have pretty good feel, but the issue with deposits was enough to send me elsewhere for pads.

Nice write up. I did this a few months back, but my rotors were rusted in place and impossible to remove. I had to go at it with pretty hard with a hammer in order to break the seal. Had no idea that one has to hit it with full force to break it loose.

hit it harder... if that doesn't work, have a bigger friend hit it harder... still doesn't work, get a real hammer and hit it even harder...

this applies for all rotors that are not bolted to the hub or part of the hub itself...

Use a Mallet and give a hard hit equi distance all around, I had mine trouble taking off sometime back, You may have to hit around 20-25 times around the rotor, but dont hit around the hub side. ( Caution )
