Has anyone ever converted the aux music port to a USB port?
A search didn't turn up a similar thread. It occurred to me that theaux port would be a hell of a lot more useful if it were a powered USB port. Imagine if it was also integrated with the nav screen, but I digress. Has anyone ever been able to at least convert it from a standard 3.5mm input jack to a USB input instead? Done right, it could both feed music into the system and charge your device as well.
Has it already been done?

not possible to be done affordable... u're talking about taking an analog input signal and converting that into digital to feed the headunit.... you would need an analog to digital converter like the vais stuff. $399 for one of theirs. you can easily purchase the usb port from a tundra or sequoia then feed that into the vais then feed that back into the changer input on your radio. good luck with that...
i thought about taking the port from a tundra then soldering my usb charger on there to make it look clean. if you want an aux input then cough up the bucks to get a vais unit. even if you did that not sure would the vais input would be able to charge since the device at the same time....

Thanks guys. I bought the USA spec kit for my LS a while ago and still havent gotten around to installing it, will likely buy the same or a similar kit for the GX as well. Guess I need to either finally get these durn things installed or find someone to do it so I can use my iPod/iPhone already.

I guess for me what would be ideal would be a kit that gave me full iPod integration as well as the DVD bypass feature.

Thanks zolt. Unless I'm reading that wrong though, the video in motion the Vaistech gives you is video from your iPod. Im talking about the DVD bypass that allows the OEM DVD changer to play with video in motion for which there are also kits out there. I will likely get one kit for that and one for the full iPod integration. A unit integrating both, at a reasonable price (<300) would be the ticket for me.
