I'm planning to purchase a 2009 GX with 87k miles from a Lexus dealer.

It has been serviced regularly every 5k miles from the beginning and the last service performed on it was at 85k miles (not sure what was included in it, but the cost was $130 so probably just an oil change).

The selling price is already pritty good, so the dealer is giving me option to either take a $1000 discount or get 90k mile service done which I think also includes the timing belt. Based on your experience, which one would you take and why?

To do the timing belt right at the dealership, it'll cost around $1500 because you're going to want to replace the water pump while in there and any cam seals as a precautionary item. Have them include the water pump with the timing belt job and a coolant flush, else that $1K is a wash.

Get the service like ROK said and make sure their itemized list matches the one in the Lexus manual. Might want to have an agreement that it is done before you purchase it in case they find something else wrong with the vehicle.

Does 90k mile service include replacing timing belt and water pump, or do i have to ask for that?

According to the Lexus site / maintenance guide it does not include the water pump. I would call the service department and ask what they recommend for the 90k service or call another dealer and get the entire list because this is a big one and if you can get it all done for a G it's worth it.

According to the Lexus site, it does include replacing the timing belt. I would probably take the 90K mile service. Follow link:

Water pump is not on the service schedule, but most replace it while they have it out while doing the timing belt as preventative.

This was a good site. In 90k miles service the following is replaced:
1. Engine oil
2. AC filter
3. Brake filter
4. Timing belt
5. Lubricate drive shaft

All other things in the checklist a basically inspections..

I'm convinced that getting it serviced is a better option and value.

Does anyone know if the differential fluid is changed as part of any scheduled service? If not, I'll ask for that also...I think there is a front and rear differential?
I'm also going to ask if the drafshaft TSB has been addressed. Is there any fluid in there that needs to be replaced? (sorry, if this is a stupid question)

Any other fluid change I should ask for? How about transmission fluid? (I know opinions are mixed on this one).

When you go to discuss this with them, I would reach into the glovebox, pull out the manual, point to the 90K service and tell them to do it all (even the suggested/not required stuff).

Definitely have the driveshaft fixed if it isnt already.

I just talked to the dealer and asked them to do the 90k service.
I also asked him to make sure that driveshaft has been fixed.

I would change the water pump for sure. You are already in there, and getting there is the hardest part!
