Default Replacing Mark Levinson 6X9 door speakers with 6.5" home audio speakers

I have read a lot of threads regarding the sensitivity of the Mark Levinson system to using alternatives. I am against using any 6X9 speakers less than 8 ohms and I do NOT want to buy replacement ML 6X9's. What I've decided to do is get an adapter to place a 6.5" 8 ohm speaker into the 6X9 bracket.
My question: Aside from the ohms, what specs should I pay attention to when searching for my replacement 6.5" speaker. How many watts, etc.?? Also, is mid-range driver the way to go? Is there a difference between "mid-range" and "mid-bass"??

Thanks.

As odd as it sounds a 6.5 sounds and performs much better than a 6x9 ask around. But since you are installing a 6.5 I recommend just removing the entiere plastic housing and making your own out of MDF. I bough a piece of 3/4" MDF at home depot for around $10 (not full sheet) made 2 trim rings and works perfectly. I should note that there was a slight raised edge where the screw holes go so I used a dremel to sand it down so when it sits on the door it is flush, you will know what I mean when you put the board on the door as you will feel the gap.

In my setup I also ran new wiring which is the large gauge white wire, I wanted both sound and quality so the old stuff had to go Here are some picts to help

HeadCrash, you're a baller for the pics and the info. Any particular reason you avoided just placing an adapter onto the OEM plastic housing? What brand/model 6.5" did you use there? How difficult was it running the wires? Thanks!
