Hi,
I'm new here. I"m a former jeep owner and finally I think I'm getting smart (er) and am about to pull the trigger on a 2005 GX with 35,000 miles.
Is there anything in particular I should look for ?

I would get some extended warranty for it and all SIB recalls have been adjusted or corrected. Good luck and post some pics if it goes through.

I'd be happy to answer any questions as a 2005 owner myself. If you search for posts ( (not just threads) by me, "zippinbye," you will see I went on at length both asking questions and sharing info about the 05 Sport Package GX we got in September of 2010. To sum it up, it's the finest truck I have ever owned, mixing truck and 4x4 capabilities with qualities similar to a well mannered, smooth and quiet sedan. The size is great, especially for ladies who might balk at larger SUVs (my wife being one). Even though it's basically mid-size, if you have the third row, 8 people can be stuffed in. Not good for long trips, but just what we need for kids with friends going around town. Perhaps best of all, it should outshine your ex-Jeep off road, or at least match it's abilities with vastly greater comfort. Like the other reply stated, look for service bulletin compliance. Dashboard cracks and drivetrain clunks have been talked about as common issues, but I have escaped them. Only trouble was recently ... 1st ever Toyota/Lexus alternator failure for me, which I'm willing to write off as an oddity that probably would not happen to but one in thousands of these trucks. I now have an emission leak, which likely was created when I was underhood for the alternator change. Haven't had time to trace it, but I'm not too worried. It's a fantastic truck for us. I am a dissenter regarding the warranty coverage. Nice if you weigh piece of mind above retaining your hard earned dollars, but it's an unlikely payback on this and most Toyota vehicles, especially with 35,000 miles if it's been maintained per schedule. I'd take a pass on the warranty. Best of luck in your acquisition.

nice post zippin. yea, in the 911 porsche world, lots of buyers consider an aftermarket warranty, but in toyotaland, i find it to be a clear cut losing proposition. toyota reliability is insanely good in comparison and the porsche is the best out of the german brands too.
