NEW clunk please help
Hi,
I just purchased a 2004 GX with only 45K miles and I love the truck. I have driven one with the TSB clunk and my current problem is different. When I stop at a light and go to start driving again I feel a thud when I take my foot off of the brake. There is no problem when I stop just when I go to start again. Is this a serious problem or normal?
I talked to Lexus before buying the truck and they said that the TSB fix had been repaired.
Thoughts?
Thanks for the help.

Alan,
I thought the old one occurred after the vehicle came to a stop? I can stop for any length of time and nothing happens. This only occurs it when I let off the brake and begin to hit the gas.

Matt,
My '05 (80K miles) does the same--slight thump when accelerating from stop but not when coming to a stop. My driveshaft was "repaired" according to specs in '05 which are now different so the original "fix" seems effectively nullified. However, I didn't own the truck then, so I don't know how bad it was at the time.
The current thump is so subtle that I don't plan to do anything about it. I'm out of warranty and so many people report a rougher ride post clunk fix that it doesn't seem worth it to me. My ride is quite bouncy as is, so I certainly don't want it to get worse.
That said if anyone knows the cost to repair the driveshaft per current specs, out of warranty, I'd like to know. Also, please chime in if I'm doing damage to anything by living with this very minor clunk (not even positive that's what it is, but I assume so).

I think I saw the new drive shaft on Sewell for less than 300, it's only 8 bolts, a private shop shouldn't want more than maybe 125 to replace it and lube it, only takes 1/2 hour

Pole Position
Splines, on the other hand, will take a LOT of grease.
While under the truck, inspect the motor and transmission/transfercase mounts. I doubt that there is anything wrong with them, but just to be safe...
