Default Timing Belt or Chain

Does the 2007 have a belt or chain? I was told by the salesguy it was a chain, but now it's looking like a belt. Just want to confirm.

It's a belt!!!

Just goes to show how trustworthy (and knowledgeable) the car salesmen are...

Funny how my selesman told me the same thing when I asked him if the belt was changed. He couldn't wiggle himself out of that one, and had to drop the price to my liking

That sucks that salesmen would say that. What if you believed him and didn't change the belt and it broke.

This wasn't at a Lexus dealer was it?

Seriously. Why would someone lie about that? Especially a Lexus salesman...

He may not have necessarily lied, maybe just didn't know the truth. Simple ignorance I guess but he should have known or checked first. Better yet, blame the dealership/mgmt for not properly training their employees.

FWIW, take an informal survey of the Lexus sales-people and see how many even drive a Lexus . . .

He seemed sure about it, but I guess "lie" is a strong word. He also said it got 21-22 mpgs. Haven't got through a full tank yet, but I doubt it will get better than the published 14-19mpg. All in all, I could blame myself for not researching better before buying... Funny about taking a survey, the salesperson said his wife drives the same model as we were buying... I liked my experience with him, but after the fact, there are some things he said that are just plain wrong. We will mention it on our survey...

I haven't said this yet, but I love the truck! It drives better than expected (Lexus) and it looks beautiful.

I have a family mechanic, would he be able to handle a waterpump/timing belt job on the GX? He works mostly on Ford's and GM.

He should be able to. Let him look at the repair manual before he starts taking your truck apart.

I stand corrected. Once I got almost 19 mpg and I was doing 65 pmh on highway driving. My normal highway speed is between 75 - 80 mph. My wife thought something was wrong when I was only doing 65 mph.
