Default GX heading to dealer for variety of issues (surging, speaker, mirrors)

Finally heading into a week without insane business travel (or spring break) so I thought I would get a few nagging issues with my truck addressed.
  • First is a continued surging issue. Whether on flat land doing 65 with cruise or stopped at a stop light I have a repeated issue where the GX will pick-up the RPMs by a few hundred revs. Annoying on the freeway, unsafe in parking lots and pulling into my garage. They previously said they couldn’t ID the issue, but I am not taking the vehicle back this time until it is fixed. Was about to pull my hair out on a 200 mile drive yesterday.
  • Second, I got in my truck after letting it sit in an unheated parking garage for about a week (was out of town on business) and it sounded like the speaker in my passenger rear door was blown. I have a feeling it probably is damaged, but only exhibits when cold (heard it a couple other times this winter).
  • Finally, my mirrors are a total basket case. Only dip occasionally, don’t dip all the way, etc. Pretty standard issue on these trucks.
The surge is the only thing I am worried is going to be difficult to diagnose. I haven’t seen a lot of issues in the GX land, but the tech on the phone this morning did indicate that he has seen the issue in LX and RX vehicle and it is usually injection or ignition coil related.

Posting so others can follow along with these issues, or make suggestions.

Happened to our last XC90 along with some other issues. Could be a be the alternator. We also eventually replaced the main computer. It sounds crazy but I would check the alternator. Autoparts store should check it for free.

Good luck

its under warranty - it isn't getting picked up until the dealer fixes it. typical bs, they tell you up and down during the purchase process and i have these three issues and it hadn't had the driveline done, so that got replaced in january immediately after buying the truck.

I would say mirrors are very common. Never heard about RPM problem, I dont think its alternator. Coil sounds more reasonable then injection.

Just a thought, if you have HVAC set to auto, is the AC compressor clicking off and on? that might feel like a "surge" at low speeds

already covered that ground. will do it with a/c off and hvac turned off.

also, in my experiance, when a/c kicks in that results in decelleration and sluggish performance. this represents a speed increase. opposite of what one comes to expect when a/c kicks in.

Do a cleansing on the Mass Air Flow Sensor , and have the throttle body Intake Air flow also cleaned. This is sensitive job, if you are pro, do it, or else take it some pro mechanic who you know could do this job with ease. Also check the PCV valve, maybe that is clogged, time to replace. I am sure this should resolve yr problem. cheers

You do know that if the R/L switch on the mirrors is set to the middle, the mirrors will not dip when you put it in reverse, right?

yeah, in this case it did turn out to be some bad parts that were replaced under warranty.
