Default Wheel Pitting

37,500 on the clock for my Dad's 06 GX. It's a garage queen for the summer when him and my Mom primarily drive the SC430, but when I took it in for the "clunk" TSB yesterday I noticed the pitting. The service advisor suggested taking pics (which I attached here) and emailing them direct to Lexus.

Anyone else have this problem?

Might be the perfect excuse to upgrade to 18" Limited 4runner wheels or look at the new 20" Limited wheels.

Should've searched "rust." You weren't kidding when you said common.

Amazing how one car manufacturer can let a defect like that happen, and usually happens beyond warranty years, I just picked up 4 reconditioned wheels on eBay, I have a 2004, could not stand looking at the "cancer" on the wheels, yours don't look bad compared to mine. Repainting a wheel is no big deal, that's all they are, silver paint, should be someone local that does that, there are even some mobile repair guys, come with a trailer, sand an repaint wheel, remount and balance

Spoke with a couple of wheel refinishers last year and it's a common (and well known) issue with Lexus/Toyota rims. One place called it the "cancer". I emailed pictures to Lexus and they told me to take it to the dealer so dealer can have a closer look.

I had the same issue, Had mine refinished. It lasted 1 year before the little bubbles and corrosion came back. I firmly believe this should have been a recall. Take a look at the next GX that drives by, 75% chance it has corrosion bubbles as well. Lexus told me they dont recall unless its a safety issue. I ended up buying 4 chrome Sequoia wheels that look like the GX 5 split spoke( I just added the Lexus Logo) for $400 delivered from Ebay. Its a shame when you trade Lexus wheels for Toyota wheels. I seriously dont think the refinish lasts, It must be a defect in the alloy or something.
