'04 CPO GX steering wheel wobble
I've had my CPO GX for about 18 months now. It has always had a slight wobble around 65-70mph but it has recently become worse. I know my front brakes need to be replaced. Could this be causing the issue? My guess is no.
I took it to my local Toyota dealer recently for the 60K service who informed me about the brakes. I am torn between using a local garage I have been happy with for the brake work and the Toyota dealer. The local Lexus dealer is worse than a casino.
Can the Toyota dealer provide warranty service under the CPO warranty if the wobble is a covered issue? I know it may be a rebalancing issue or tires out of round so it may not matter.
My first thought is to use my local garage and have them address the brakes and balance the tires.

My Lexus dealer here in town is pretty cool. They have book price which is what they quote. I ask for a discount, usually with a little evidence of less expensive places and they will adjust the price for me. Always worth a shot.
And...I had the same wobble on a CPO and they were aware and rebalanced before I took delivery. Wobble still there. My truck is an 05 with 19K miles so I figured the PO let the truck sit and possibly that had a negative effect on the tires. Maybe flat spots, whatever. I replaced the tires and rims not because of the wobble, but I hated the stock chromies. Wobble gone. The shop that balance the new rims claimed it's best to use a RoadForce balancer because many rims use sticky weights only on the inside of the rim which makes it very hard to get a proper balance. My suggestion is to try a shop with state of the art balancing equipment. I would assume Lexus would have this, but maybe not.

Hey Sprokets how have you been? Still got the SeaPro or have you gone bigger already? I sold the Sailfish 218 last summer Looking to go bigger.
Anyway, I agree with Blair, tires are out of balance. If your rotors had run-out/warped the vibration would only happen when you apply the brakes. I would recommend getting your wheels Road Force Balanced. I have not had much success at Lexus or Toyota with a typical balance. Take it to your local tire shop that has a Road Force Balance machine it will be less expensive then what Lexus will charge you to do the same.
As for your brakes either take it to a Toyota dealer or a local garage that you trust and buy the parts from Sewell or your local Toyota dealer and have the garage install them. My local Toyota dealer has done all of my brake work (rotors and pads), it was a lot cheaper then Lexus. Good luck!

Hey Chris. I saw that you sold the Sailfish. Are you looking to get back into the game? I still have the Sea Pro 220. An upgrade would have to be to 26' to be worthwhile, so I am going to hold off for now. The downside is that there have been several days where that 26' would get me offshore while the 22' stays on the trailer.
I am leaning towards the local shop. They do have the road force balancing equipment. They are not much cheaper than a dealer but their guys are well trained. I sent them an email to see if they will work on the GX. Since the Toyota dealer is close to my home, I'll offer to pick up the parts.

Good luck with the search Chris. I'm sure you have been keeping your eyes open. Have you looked into accessing the Mannheim Auction website through a broker? The auction in Lakeland, FL is the main auction site for boats. If you can get the password, you can actually watch the auctions online.
Back to the GX. My local shop wants $211 to do the front brakes including turning the rotors and oem pads. Road force balancing is $12/tire. Not cheap but in line with the Toyota dealer.

Thanks for the tip sprockets I havnt looked into that.
As for your gx I would not recommend turning your rotors if they are not pulsing during breaking and even then I would not recommend it, buy new if they are warped. Otherwise you will be putting good money after bad. Reason being the gx rotors are poorly engineered for the truck. When you turn them it only makes the rotor thinner and more prone to warp. Believe me, been there done that. Ended up buying new oem rotors. Check Toyota for prices they are the same rotors as the 4 runner v8. Pm me if you have any questions

I took it to my local Toyota dealer today for brakes and 4-wheel balance. It's like a new vehicle. Front brakes were $199 + 4 wheel balance $50. Happy camper!

No cookies or soda and you have to pay for you coffee with powdered creamer, but Toyota knows how to take care of business.

The Toyota dealer is about 7 miles from my house so I brought my bike with me (I'm 50) and rode home. See - they even made me get off my butt and get some excercise! One of the service advisors worked at a Lexus dealer before moving to town which helps.

BTW, I wouldn't want to be doing that ride in July down there in FL! lol
