oil capacity
at a recent dealer service i was reviewing my invoice and noticed that the oil volume they used was listed at 8 quarts. i was puzzled since the owners manual says my '06 gx takes 6.5 quarts (including the filter change). the service advisor said that they recommend 7.5 quarts since the lx 470 required that amount and is the same engine and that even if they put in an extra quart it would be a method to make sure the oil level didn't get too low in case the engine burned oil between oil changes. how much oil are you putting in during changes?

8 is 1-qt to much! even though it says 6.5 mine takes 7 and its at the full mark! I bet you are well over the full mark--take a look. They just got extra$$$ from that QT. If you look and its at the full mark--they did not use 8......

that has got to be the biggest dealer rip off in history. How many extra qts of oil they sell in a day that do not even go into the engine. No way that engine takes a drop over 7 qts. I do my oil changes myself and always put in the 6.6 recommended, always just shy of the full mark on the dipstick. Been doing this for over 100,000 miles on my '04. Let the dealer change oil the first few times. Saw that 8 qts on the bill. Never went back to that dealer for service again, but as it turns out, they all do it because the service is standardized by Lexus in all the computers, someone really needs to take the company to task on this overcharge.

I, too, have personally serviced our '06 GX 470, and after allowing time for an absolutely complete drain, the vehicle holds exactly 7 quarts, with a new filter. I would take the vehicle to the Lexus dealership, but am more concerned about the job getting done correctly and at a fair price. As a side note, I use only Mobil 1 - 5W30, and a WIX filter.
