Uh oh - Front Right (Passenger side) strut leaking
Anyone have theirs replaced recently? Are the parts and labor horrendously overpriced? Can I replace just one or do I have to have them replaced in pairs?
Thanks.
I have an 04 GX470!!!

Hi...just came out of the dealership...now they tell me the same story...
Here is what they said:
We have a bay open and we can do it right now for 1,200! Oh by the way a small leak on the radiator side tank..we can do that for 1,450! We can discount that 200.00 for you!
New dealership...guess they are trying to recoup their building cost.

I am sorry to hear it, but there is a criteria where the Stealer ship look into the replacement criteria for the Shocks replacement, I reckon, this can be done by a non dealer, whereby you can have the OEM parts picked up from Sewell by getting a discount for CL members, it is not rocket science. Even the Auto zone guys can get this done. Hope this helps

I had my driver's rear shock replaced under warranty. I checked sewell for pricing for the rest of them (1 rear, two fronts) and was surprised to find the rears are very pricey ($600ish) while the front shocks are pretty cheap ($150ish). The rears look jpretty easy to replace DIY. The fronts are going to be a bit of a PITA (need a compressor, which I happen to have).

I had my fronts replaced earlier this summer. With the clublexus discount from swell parts the shocks were $205 each, and I had the local toyota dlr do the install for $250. Total cost just over $650. FYI some local shops wouldn't install the shocks unless I bought the shocks from them. So you may want to check first before ordering the shocks.

Anyone skipped this repair and have been driving fine for a long time?
I was told the same and decided to skip the replacement since I have not felt any symptom, plus some website claimed such minor leak to be "normal" for Lexus.

I think the truck will still drive fine even with lousy shocks for quite some time. The biggest problem is the combination of the rear shocks going bad with the air springs, will cause the truck the bottom out in the rear when you hit large bumps.
A good test discussed on the old Landcruiser message boards, is to drive over a set of train tracks or something a bit faster than you normally would, and see how many times the truck "bounces" afterwards.
If it rebounds more than once afterwards, it's probably time for shocks in a bad way
