Hmm you got me thinking on the Heat issue with My fogs I just did! When you pull that little vent tube off the back there is some paper material covering the hole--didnt seem like it would let any air in?? looked sealed to me! Guess I will see what happens--Im thinking to seal it up to prevent moisture from going inside the fog-light lens?

rather than cutting the foglight housing i cut a slot into the cover. just big enough to tightly accomodate the wires and then i used silicone to seal it. i think the vents are there to get rid of any moisture.

i copied booyah's pic and put a red line where i cut the slot.

Yep, vents there for moisture and there's another vent upper right in the picture. I was concerned about breaking the door to the foglight housing.

No issues so far, if needed, drill a small vent hole and put a screen over it.

The lower hole is for drainage and the second hole at the top is for vapor to escape when the light is on.

Since you essentially have no drainage, you may get water build up. I had this happen with my old lexus es300 fog light when a spider decided to build a house in the drainage hole. Eventually I had to replace the whole housing as it rusted to hell. Here is the pic...that amber foglight is supposed to be clear...it was all rust inside. That drainage hole/spider web essentially cost me $300.

Unless you're driving through a river, how much moisture do you think is going to get in there? The heat from having the fog lights on will dry most of the moisture.

Seriously, do you think water is going to climb up 1/4 inch to drain itself? Look at the hole in comparison to the bottom of the FL housing? Did someone prove Newton's Law of Gravity to be incorrect?

Drill a hole above the deflector and put a nylon mesh over the hole. So easy, nothing to worry about. Newton's Law of Gravity is still correct, water cannot "climb" upwards!

My fog HID install is very similar to yours except I drilled a hole in the housing cap and fit my wires through there. It is very clean and professional looking....further, the vents are all left alone. Worst case scenario is that I replace the cap which is a lot less expensive than the housing. The cap is easy to drill because the plastic does not crack. I didn't even need any silicon but put some at the interface just for insurance.

hammer0008....very nicely done! the only reason why i didn't do mine that way is i coudn't find my makita and drill bits. of course now that several months have passed i found the drill and the bits.

i'm sooooo annoyed by my HID fogs....aside from buying a new set of slim ballasts i have literally tried everything!!! so my solution is to order another set of fog lamp covers and just put my regular old incandescent bulbs back in. the part is only $6.25 i think. part number is #9007566001

What happened to the HID foglights? Did the bulbs burn out?

somehow the passenger side burned out. i got a replacement set and within 3 months the driver side one went. i checked everything out and surprisingly everything is a-ok but somehow they just seem to burn out rather quickly. i'm going to repair the bulb covers that i cut a slot into with this stuff called JB Weld. once the JB Weld is cured i'm going to do what hammer0008 did with his.
